Who is Ghanim Al Muftah?
You might have heard there’s a football tournament that just kicked off in Qatar.
During the Fifa Worldcup 2020 opening ceremony, Morgan Freeman shared the stage with this young 20-year-old man, Ghanim Al-Muftah.

Ghanim was born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, a rare disorder that impairs the development of the lower spine, meaning he has no lower limbs.
Given very few chances of survival by doctors, Ghanim has managed to confound their expectations.

Ghanim owes much of his success to his parents who have been an unfaltering influence on his positive development with their insistence that he leads a normal life.
He is Qatar’s youngest entrepreneur, having founded Gharissa Ice Cream, a company that has 6 branches and hires 60 employees, with ambitions to expand his business and open franchises across the entire Gulf region.

Ghanim’s hope is to become a future Paralympian. Despite his disabilities, Ghanim lists swimming, scuba diving, football, hiking and skateboarding as his favourite sports. At school, Ghanim used to play football wearing shoes on his hands.
Astonishingly, Ghanim has climbed Jebel Shams, the highest mountain peak in the entire Gulf region. Fearless, he has publicly voiced his intention to climb Mount Everest.

Ghanim is known for his philanthropy, having set up the Association of Ghanim with help from his family. The association donates wheelchairs to those in need.
With over 3 million followers on Instagram, Al-Muftah aims to study Political Science at university, with the goal of becoming a future Prime Minister of Qatar.

And who’s going to stop him?
Inspirational doesn’t even cover it for this amazing young man.
His story serves to inspire by showing how the human spirit can soar despite the incredible challenges he’s faced.
Although small in stature, Ghanim is a true giant in so many other ways.
